Rose’s Pre-Sewing Basics

Instructor: Rose Skelly
Class Fee: $30
This is a one-time class to help those who have never sewn, or have minimal sewing experience, get started. We will cover the operation of your machine, sewing tools, basic stitches, seams, pattern selection, and fabric. After class the students will have the skills to select fabric and notions for a simple project of their choice to make in the follow-up sewing classes.

Supply List

• Operational sewing machine (recent tune-up STRONGLY suggested). Bring your machine's instruction book and accessories.
• Quality scissors such as Mundial, Fiskars, or Gingher
• All purpose thread (Preferred brands are Swiss Mettler Metrosene or Gutermann.Coats & Clark Dual Duty All Purpose is OK but do not buy anything lesser priced.)

These classes are for anyone who has completed pre-sewing basics or would like to build on existing skills. All skill levels welcome. The format is flexible and geared to each student. Choose to make a garment, home dec item, or quilting project. Serger as well as sewing machine projects are welcome.

Supply List

• Operational sewing machine (recent tune-up STRONGLY suggested). Bring your machine's instruction book and accessories.
• Basic sewing supplies. Can be purchased at Cathey’s using a 10% discount. (i.e. quality scissors, all purpose thread, pins, measuring tape, Dixon chalk pencil, Chacoliner, water soluble marker, 6” metal gauge ruler, pattern weights)
• Pattern and prewashed fabric - You may choose from suggested patterns or choose 1 of your own.
• Interfacing and notions that the pattern requires (see back of pattern envelope). Cathey’s carries interfacing.
• Optional: Simplicity's Simply the Best Sewing Book

Karen’s Sewing Classes

Connie’s Pre-Sewing Basics

This is a one-time class to help those who have never sewn, have minimal experience, or even more experienced sewers. It is a prerequisite for all those who wish to continue in Connie’s sewing classes. We will cover the operation of your sewing machine, sewing tools, basic stitches, seams, pattern selection and fabric. After class students will have the skills to select fabric and notions for a project of their choice to make in the follow-up sewing classes.

Make Your Own Jeans that Fit!

Class Fee: $85 / Pattern: $16
This class begins with a quick and easy jeans muslin and ends with a pair of jeans that fit you! You will also learn the tricks to make these jeans look professionally made.

The first class of this series will be devoted to fitting the jeans muslin. The remaining 3 classes will be constructing the pants and learning quick factory construction techniques.

The Ultimate in Garment Fitting
Pants or Blouses

Class Fee: $75 / Pattern: $16
Let’s make a pair of pants or a blouse that fits you! The choice is yours. This class begins with a quick and easy sloper of a blouse or pants and ends with a perfect fitting garment. We’ll demystify many garment fitting rules to make this class fun and valuable. These skills will help you customize other patterns as well.

The first class of this series will be devoted to fitting the garment muslin and sewing in the changes. The remaining 2 classes will be constructing the garment and learning quick factory construction techniques.
